American Idol Runners Up Paid Less This Year Reflecting Changes In Music Sale

By Roberta Robinson

Many of us are familiar with the music of Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Jordan Sparks, and Last Year Idol Winner Scotty McCreery. As Idol Winners, they were paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce albums. Last year 10 Recordings advanced McCreery upwards of $300,000 upon completion of his first album and this year Phillips could receive even more up to three times that if he produced at least six albums. These advances are then paid out of the singer’s song royalties.

But what about our beloved Runners Up? Remember Lauren Alaina the sweet Country Georgia Peach from last year. Lauren was given an album deal last year and still received over $150,000 after placing second. Apparently, 19 Recordings Inc. has the option to handle albums and recordings of these runners-up for several years after the show season finishes. As we look back at other contestants like Daughtery and Jennifer Hudson we have to wonder how they were treated and what deals they were given. Possibly these artists were given a guaranteed album deal with a hefty advance to be paid back out of future royalties.

What about the extremely talented Jessica Sanchez? It seems it is tough for very talented girls to win the coveted title on American Idol. Perhaps there are more young females inclined to vote for good-looking young male artists as we saw the last few years’ winnings dominated by young male artists. If American Idol focuses on single song sales for its runners-up rather than advances for full albums the artists will be paid less. Possibly due to the economy, but also likely due to increased internet sales and the ability to buy and sell single songs on Facebook it seems the recording industry has shifted toward single-song sales in recent years. Look at artists’ fan pages on Facebook and you will see single songs for purchase all over Facebook. The internet, Facebook, iPod and iPhone, and iTunes have changed the way we buy music. So if the very talented Jessica Sanchez were only asked to record four songs she could be paid as little as $30,000 in advance. Instead of a guaranteed album deal for the runner-up, she may face a staggering period of development that pays out less in advance but requires only single songs rather than full albums.

Let’s face it, American Idol contestants are not hurting due to contract reductions based on single-song deals. They have opportunities to earn money with Disney appearances, merchandise profit cuts, and the famous American Idol tour. If we get to know them and like them they could face the success of the fourth runner-up Daughtry. But what does this story mean to struggling artists trying to build a career in music? What if they do not get picked for American Idol? Buyers purchased over a billion single songs last year as opposed to the over 300 million albums that were sold. It seems the place to build a career could be on the internet and you do not have to spend thousands of dollars to have a quality site!

My friend Susan Dale recently sold a television show to producers after three years of building relationships on the internet. Her daughter Anastasia Richarson http://www.facebook.com/Anastasiamusic1/app_343180435727440 has been using a virtual social media agency for only $50.00 a month to promote herself as a new country artist. In less than a month she has almost 100 followers and communication from record labels. We have been using The Total Social Media Agency ourselves and have developed a reach of 80,000 in three months. http://www.facebook.com/robinsonlawpc Check out these sites and let us know what you think!

By Roberta Robinson

Welcome to our Tulsa Oklahoma Affordable Bankruptcy Law Attorney Legal Blog. We have streamlined our business so we can make chapter 7 bankruptcy affordable for you starting at only $699.99. We invite you to call us for a FREE Consultation to see if Bankruptcy is the right option for you. Check out our website at https://www.robinsonlawpc.com/bankruptcy-2 for more information.

The new job market figures released in May indicate the total unemployment rate is up to 14.5% and the number of unemployed still looking is up to 8.2%. While people were optimistic in March with figures of new jobs added at 143,000 in March, we saw a decline in the United States of new jobs added to only 77,000 in April and 69,000 in May. Many theories abound as to the cause of the decline in the job market but the reality is that this is a tough situation for anyone who has faced a layoff or “down-sizing”.

Many professionals have been forced to downgrade their income to survive or to go into business for themselves. In Tulsa, Oklahoma Bankruptcy filings have remained pretty steady this year. There were 232 filings in January, 276 filings in February, 386 filings in March, and 292 filings in April. This is certainly down from 2005 when over 2 million people filed prior to November 1 when the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act went into Law. However, Bankruptcy filings have been steady since the economic downturn of 2006. In Northeastern Oklahoma we have averaged 3500 to 5000 a year for the last three years.

If you are a single person on social security you qualify for our low chapter 7 bankruptcy attorney fee of $699.99. That includes your credit report. The Court Filing Fee is $306.00 at the current time. The credit counseling class that you have to take is usually only $30.00. Generally, the chapter 7 bankruptcy attorney fee for a single employed person who qualifies under the means test is only $799.99. If you need to make payments we can work with you. We offer a FREE Consultation for you to review your situation with us to determine if bankruptcy is the right option for you.

Small Business Owners Toughing Hard Times

By Roberta Robinson

The United States of America has seen tough times over the past few years. Layoffs, early retirement, and unemployment are terms we all hear every day. Mortgage Foreclosure and bankruptcy chapter 7 or 11 or 13 have claimed many. But, The American Economy has a powerful weapon in its arsenal. That weapon is the small business owner or nonprofit Director. Are you one of those? Do you work for one of those? Have you become one of those?

Many Professionals and CEOs, as well as managers and highly paid workers, have had to reinvent themselves. Too old, too expensive to insure, or just being part of too much overhead has caused the loss of “jobs” in America in record numbers. Many of these resourceful and talented people have become the backbone of the new American economy. The Small Business Administration estimates that 54% of the jobs in America come from small businesses. 66% of the “new” jobs in America are accounted for by small businesses. People like you and me.

The battle this small army faces is the challenge of less access to capital funding to start a new business. Return on Investment takes on a whole new meaning when banks are not willing to invest in small business loans anymore. Many business owners find themselves tapping into their own personal assets to keep their businesses running. The phrase “Everyone gets paid before me” is more true today than ten years ago. What do small business owners need to know to not only survive but to prosper in this economy?

My sister who is a life coach once asked me in the midst of a marketing campaign “Who are you targeting as an audience?”. I realized that we had to identify who we really could best help as clients and that we had to know our “Brand”. The key to a small business owner’s success is to know what they have to offer, why they are different, who they want to reach, and then to develop that brand. Then they have to focus on targeting the right audience at every opportunity.

Survival of the small business depends on the focus and deliberate action of its owner. The owner must be able to focus on a business plan, business goals, and budget, must wear many hats, and when to outsource. What can you outsource more effectively for a better return on investment than you can do yourself? We highly recommend against borrowing from personal assets to fund the business if at all possible. We have seen many business owners file for personal bankruptcy and lose not only their business but their home and retirement.

Before things get out of hand take a hard look at what expenses contribute to business growth and what expenses are too much overhead. Look at the return on investment. We found a wonderful virtual social media agency that promotes our business through social media. If you look at our business page http://www.facebook.com/robinsonlawpc/app_178879648907854 you will notice that there are links to our website.

These links helped us SEO this Website on Google. For only $100.00 a month we were able to outsource facebook page building, external links to our website, youtube video channel links, sweepstakes and post and leap or content writing, and an automated schedule. That was a good return on investment. You can check out the total social media agency for more information on virtual social media as a good return on investment for your advertising dollars at http://www.totalsocialmedia.com/index.asp. Protect your personal assets and look at the return on investment in every business decision that you make!
